We went to our first toy show last week! It was one of the biggest-Toy Fair 2012 at the Javit’s Center in NYC which is not open to the public. So, here is your sneak peek inside the show! The place was a zoo with over 27,000 people attending. It was absolutely buzzing with activity and enthusiastic exhibitors showing the latest & greatest inventions in the toy world.
Patty & I could not even cover all of the booths! We walked for over 5 hours each day gabbing, meeting toy developers & seeing their products. All of the biggies were represented; Hasbro, X-box, Activision, Lego, Fisher-Price, & Mattel even had their own floor!
We also meet some awesome new toy/game designers & their new products that you could ride, would light up, build, dress-in or snuggle with. We saw an awesome new bike that used pedals that pump,a unique booth with light-up gloves, a start-up ecological dress-up company, and many educational toys. Of course Patty & I focused on the new & already established doll companies like; A Girl for All Time, Madame Alexander, & even Lego’s new line which includes girl figures.
Everything under the sun was represented, even products for the toy business like; toy testing, toy insurance, retail providers for small business (A.S.T.R.A), women in toys (WIT), & the TIA (Toy Industry Association) itself.
New York City was awesome as usual. We actually took a few hours to be tourists and explored The Top of the Rock, had lunch at a table right next to Rockefeller Center ice rink, paid our respects at the beautiful 911 memorial, and did some shopping at Macy’s in Time Square.
Will we go to the Toy Fair 2013? Most definitely! Hopefully, we will have a booth of our own but, if not it is a great place to see some of the new wares, take meetings & re-acquaint ourselves with the rest of the industry’s movers and shakers.
